#makingmerry

Style Note: balance out classic {always a staple in any of my looks} and trendy by pairing a chambray shirt, for a relaxed feel, with a vivid midi skirt.

I love when my bug joins me on the blog! It’s rare these days…
This past Saturday was a bit special because we were heading to an afternoon music program called Christmas Is and then to drop off toys at a toy drive for foster children.
This time of year, for me and my family, is all about being thankful for what we have and reflecting on those who have less… some who can barely even get the necessities. And we started teaching our daughter about being grateful at an early age, so every year she has a small list. As she gets older, she becomes more involved in the ‘giving’ spirit.
I was so proud a few weeks ago when out of the blue she asked to shop for a friend because ‘Christmas is about giving, not getting.’ This girl is teaching me so much!
Anyway, we’re making merry in our house with the simple things… decorating, baking together, and giving as much as we can. I love getting festive too with my outfits, so Saturday was the perfect excuse to glam up a bit with a festive skirt. It was actually a bit cold, so I was able to break out my blanket scarf that complimented this outfit perfectly.
I’m all about eclectic style and if you’ve followed long enough, you can see that sometimes I like to do it up a little girly and other days I’m feelin’ more casual chic. This outfit is definitely the balance between the two, and gave me enough Christmas style without traditional red and green explosion.
I’d love to hear more about how you’re #makingmerry!

Playin’ with Texture and Prints

Style Note: The key to mixing prints? It’s pretty simple… by sticking to base colors you can mix virtually anything. Once you get the hang of it you can go bolder, but if you’re just starting to play with prints, you can’t go wrong by staying in the same color family.

I’m a huge fan of staple pieces that mix-and-match across a wardrobe, but I love adding interest to the basics; making them unique to each individual’s style.
Take this skirt for instance. Just the bit of texture and fun, flirty cut take a staple black skirt and give it so much intrigue. It’s still perfect for the office, but stays true to my style. Adding the leather just boosts the ‘cool’ factor!
And I love playing with prints: floral and snakeskin, in this case.
Here’s to amping up your week with some fun prints and textures!

Wedding Season

The doors to this session’s STYLE ME will be closing THIS Friday, don’t miss out. You can register here.

Hello, loves! I hope you’re beating the Monday blues. Me? It’s all about spring in the studio as I gear up for the spring Style Me session. And I’m excited to be moving in a spring wardrobe for a client. But it’s not all work, I can’t wait for a little overnighter this week to the central coast.
I’m back today chattin’ about wedding season. When setting out to style the perfect look for a wedding I attended a few weekends ago, I had a vision of pulling together a classic look, while adding interesting pieces and textures. In fact, I had this fab black and white patterned coat that become the base around which to build the look.
Style Note: Black and white? I say classic. You really can’t go wrong here. Why it works? Black and white defines elegance. The combination is timeless. Though this color combo isn’t groundbreaking, this spring, designers are raising interest by playing with textures, silhouettes, and patterns. I was pleased to see it as a choice among celebrities on the Oscar’s red carpet. Both Reese Witherspoon and Patricia Arquette pulled this combo off stunningly. And it’s the perfect backdrop for a color pop ;). Get ya some!

Transitional Style

Our weather here in so. Cal is so temperamental… for a week we’re in mid 70s {I’m convinced as close to fall as we’re going to get}, then it’s back to 95! and then mid 70s for a few days with a rise to high 80s. Make up your mind California!
Anyhow, it leaves me wearing transitional pieces because it’s never quite cold enough for ‘fall’ clothing and it seems so ridiculous to wear summer clothes in October!
My latest transitional style has me in a skirt I purchased late summer {also seen here}, and I absolutely love the print. Because it was cool enough not to die in a sweater, I paired this gem with a cable knit sweater {a staple piece} I picked up long ago when I collaborated with Banana Republic

Style note: the neutral palette and shorter skirt works for warmer weather, while pairing with a darker {think a great plum color!} bootie plays with the darker color tones of fall.

Garden Party

I hope all you lovelies had a fantastic long weekend. Mine was pretty eventful, and Saturday, I was able to finally break out this gorgeous skirt from eShakti. Have heard of them? They are only kind of amazing!
I fell in love with this skirt the moment I saw it. Y’all know I’m notorious for grabbing up pieces that I can imagine wearing at least 3 ways, and I’m telling you, don’t be surprised if you see this one on repeat in the very near future!
Anyhow, their whole idea is clothing for ‘real women,’ so they offer customization based on a woman’s individual measurements. They have a rather great range of sizes from 0 to 36. Though, I didn’t actually do any customizing myself, if you find you prefer a ‘truer’ fit for a particular size, shape, or you require a more modest skirt length, or a shorter one, you can customize any piece for that perfect fit.
I received so many compliments while wearing this skirt. Ooh, I almost forgot to mention the best part… it has pockets! I lalalove skirts and dresses with pockets and I think all dresses/skirts should have ’em. I found that most of eShakti skirts and dresses had them! Plus, I know, there’s more? The material is light weight enough for comfort on warm days, yet the fabric is thick enough that it doesn’t require a slip. I am definitely not a slip and hose kind of girl, so this was fabulous.
Go see for yourself! I promise you’ll find a style you love for whatever the occasion.
