Playin’ with Texture and Prints

Style Note: The key to mixing prints? It’s pretty simple… by sticking to base colors you can mix virtually anything. Once you get the hang of it you can go bolder, but if you’re just starting to play with prints, you can’t go wrong by staying in the same color family.

I’m a huge fan of staple pieces that mix-and-match across a wardrobe, but I love adding interest to the basics; making them unique to each individual’s style.
Take this skirt for instance. Just the bit of texture and fun, flirty cut take a staple black skirt and give it so much intrigue. It’s still perfect for the office, but stays true to my style. Adding the leather just boosts the ‘cool’ factor!
And I love playing with prints: floral and snakeskin, in this case.
Here’s to amping up your week with some fun prints and textures!

Belated Birthday

chambray via {similar here & here} // printed shorts {last summer, current here} // clutch // necklace  // similar cuff // rings here & here // gladiators {splurge; save}

Oh hey, loves! You know that bloggin’ thing I used to do? Yeah, it’s been a while, but thanks for sticking around!
It’s been a mad house over here. Super scatterbrained, I can’t even remember if I mentioned I’ve taken on a job working a few days with a celeb stylist: pulls, fittings, and returns for celebrity clients; all that jazz, and of course I’m still stylin’ at Haven Street, so that leaves little time for the blog.
I recently had a birthday, yay me! I don’t know how I feel about it… getting older is a weird thing ;). Anyhow, it was a chill weekend. I didn’t want anything over the top, so I spent a pool day with the fam and then a casual dinner at one of my favorite spots.
So on to this outfit, shall we? Chambray is all the rage and goes perfect with a pair of summer printed shorts and a gladiator or lace up sandal {a few of my summer must-have’s on the StyleME program this season ;)}.

Style Note: Naturally, chambray has this cool feel all it’s own. Play up gorgeous gams with a lightweight cotton printed short or skirt. Balance the look with a relaxed solid top {bleached denim is hawt right now, so try out chambray for relaxed cool}. Add a gladiator or lace up for a little edge and pull the look together. This look is perfect for a low-key date night, casual dinner or even brunch. Add a bright or neon {like my clutch} for a little summer-y bold chic-ness!

It’s Friday! Any fun plans, guys?

California Coast

Hey m’lovelies, I’m back and working with LeTote once again styling this fun spring look!

It’s been a few crazy weeks ’round here. I spent last weekend and the early part of this week being sick, blah. That’s never fun, but last week we had a lovely overnight trip up the California coast, and it definitely pushed my mood for spring over the top!

We spent the night in Cambria and oh. my. gosh. was it beautiful! We had cocktails and watched the sunset, and enjoyed a super fresh fish dinner. The next morning the hubs had a meeting, so I was able to get a little work done and then it was all play the rest of the day. We even made it to Solvang {I’d never been} and ended with a stop at a winery for truffles and wine pairing! I love little breaks like these.

I hope you’re all having an amazing week. Just want to remind the ladies, TODAY the doors close on the spring STYLE ME session {It’s less than $30!!!} and is packed full of all the must-haves to building a complete year round wardrobe with emphasis on seasonal pieces that’ll carry you through the entire spring.

Have a wonderful weekend…
What fun do you all have planned?

Style Note: black and white is always a classic look and a go-to for me. Put a fun twist by adding pattern or print this spring. Of course, black and white look AH-mazing on their own, but it’s the perfect palette for adding bursts of colors!

Leopard on Leopard

pullover // h&m tee {can’t find online; similar} // diy distressed {similar} // slip on’s {every price point here, here, & here} // nail color
First off, is everyone cutting the ankles off their jeans? Oh how I love distressed denim! I was distressin’ my own jeans long ago when people were throwing their ‘hole-y’ jeans out… and I’m loving the whole cutoff ankle look {have you seen the free people distressed ankle skinny in black? I’M IN LOVE! And in need of other colors!}, so I decided to DIY an older pair of denim.
Secondly, you guys know I’m a huge fan of print-mixing, but some days you just have to double up the print! Can’t go wrong with leopard on leopard.
Hope you are all having a fabulous week. We’re in the midst of a huge rainstorm here {though I love it and we really need it, it’s creating a bit of havoc for some}, so stay safe if you’re in areas with lots of weather and have a fabulous, fashionable weekend!
Style Note: The key to mixing the same print is to be careful of being too matchy-matchy. Though the print is very similar here, the shades are different creating some contrast. Aim for either a larger print mixed with smaller {think large polka dots mixed with smaller dots, pin stripes paired with larger stripes}, or if pairing very similar sized print, opt for a difference in shades or even colors.

Prints & Pastels

leopard pullover {love this} // similar plaid button down // denim // wedge booties {splurge, save} // bag c/o {Sale
I had such a great weekend, though I felt like I was going for much of it. As much as I have days I just want to stay in the comforts of my own home, I do love staying busy, especially when it’s running errands with my family, SHOPPING, and getting time with my girls.
If you’ve been paying attention to my outfit choices lately, I’ve been leaning toward darker colors. So I decided to play with prints {because that’s my thing}, but also do a little color mixing. With the cooler weather, pastels are so great to really add a pop to those darker color palettes.
I hope you all had an amazing weekend… I’m kicking off my Christmas shopping today and hoping to be done by the end of the week.
Anyone completely done yet?

Style Note: Plaids are always in season and a great piece to use for print mixing. Playing with the pops of pastels in the button down give a darker palette a more feminine feel. By combining pastels with patterned pieces you create an intriguing style. How to choose pastels: creamier tones are great for darker skin tones and hair color, whereas richer pastels are great for blondes.

Printed Shorts for Unexpected Style

printed short // jun & ivy swiss dot blouse {similar} // zara heels {similar} // dolce vita sandals // chevron pendant necklace // cuff {similar here & here
This is the last of the NYC summer trip outfit posts. I’m seriously behind on posting them, but since it’s still hot I wanted to share some of my go-to summer shorts styles.
I love everything about these shorts: the cool, flowy fabric, the gorgeous jewel tones, and the pattern. The great thing about the right type of shorts is their versatility… I wore them during the day paired with a flat sandal for a fun outing to American Girl, but they transitioned perfectly for an evening to dinner with a striking colored heel.
I received so many compliments on this outfit. I think the freshness of a perfect summer printed short is unexpected for evening wear that it gives you unique style.
Tune in Monday for some tips via video on dressing up your shorts.

Perfect in Paisley

shop by jmv paisley blouse // paige denim {Major SALE!} // maison scotch clutch // justfab heels // similar cuff // similar necklace // essie polish in tart deco & mint candy apple

I immediately fell in love with this paisley blouse when I laid eyes on it. It styled so well with a swept back faux hawk braid for a dressy casual Father’s day dinner with the hubs, the bug, his dad and brother. I love the accents of gold that really gave a pop, and of course the shoes! These shoes are amazing and comfortable, and part of my Mother’s day present.
Happy Friday! Hope y’all have an amazing weekend. Just a reminder for you locals, I’m hosting a styling event TOMORROW NIGHT with John of Shop by John Michael Villa. Come hang out, shop, and get some summer styling ideas!
