Casual Edge

There’s still time to enter the LeTote Giveaway!
leather trimmed tank c/o // leather elbow patch cardi c/o // boyfriend jeans // crystal dot bracelet c/o // watch {love this & part of the nordstrom SALE!} // bag c/o // studded t-strap pumps {splurge, save} // sunnies {similar, major save}
This past weekend was filled with family… as are most of our weekends. But we celebrated the hubs’ little brother’s 18th birthday!
I always love an occasion I can play with a casual look and add edge and glam… Hello accents of leather! studs! bling!
I think it’s safe to say that my go-to colors are blacks and grays, and neutrals. This particular time I chose my accessories and accents carefully. To add to the edginess of strategically placed leather {trim on the tank and elbow patches on the cardi}, I added studded pumps for a little drama. The crystal dot bracelet and gold watch popped. Because I like to break the rules a bit, I went with my spring purchase of a pastel bag. I love pastels in spring and believe they pop in winter, but against the darker colors of fall, it can be really eye-catching. It also softness up the dark palette and edginess just enough.
I hope you all are having a great week so far. If you need a little pick-me up, shopping always lifts my spirits and Nordies is having a great SALE!
Style note: off-set an edgy look {such as leather detailing or studs} with a delicate piece {pastel accessories, diamonds, lace}.

Summer to Fall Mix Up

american eagle jacket {very old; similar splurge, save} // graphic pullover via Nordstrom {similar} // boyfriends // heels via target {similar} // watch // bangles // rings // belt // essie polish in bikini so teeny // lips in fusion pink
Hey guys, it’s a late post, and I know I haven’t posted much lately, but thank you for sticking with me. It’s been a bit busy ’round here. Thank you for all the kind emails about my grandmother. I took some much needed time to spend with my mom and my family, and am in the process of creating Amélia’s big girl room. We even missed a vacation we were supposed to take to northern California. As much as we were looking forward to it, I’m glad I spent the time with my mom. We ended up at the lake house in Havasu and I’ll post some fun photos from our time spent there later this week.
Today, I’m dreaming of fall! After hot, hot weather in Havasu, a 16 hour power outage, and some last ditch summer tanning efforts and soaking up the sun, I’m so ready for cooler weather. The one day we experienced some drop in temps, I pretended fall was on the horizon and mixed up some summer pieces with fall attire. I’m itching to break out the sweaters and live in all my jeans, like these boyfriends! And this jacket is one of my closet staples I’m excited to pair with more fall outfits.
Hope y’all have had a great week, happy Friday!
Saturday’s are for hair tutorials, so head on over to my youtube channel tomorrow for some hair inspo. And be sure to subscribe as not all videos will be posted to the blog.

#STRAIGHTHAIRDONTCARE

I Spent last week in NYC. You guys know, I love that city! I could live there. Anyhow, we flew out on a redeye which put us in the city early Easter Sunday morning. Um yeah, I’ve flown at all different times, but the best is arriving late just in time for bed! So red eyed, in the clothes I flew with, and with straight hair fresh out of a side braid, we hit the town.

Talking Spring Trends: Westside Pavilion Collaboration & Youtube Video

Spring is here! And it’s a great time to step out of the box and try new trends. As a stylist buying for clients, as well as myself, I’m also concerned about having basic essentials no matter what season I’m purchasing for. But don’t be afraid to mix your basics and try out the trends you like.
Recently, I worked with Westside Pavilion in L.A. to create a spring trend collection for their youtube channel. I chose 3 top trends for spring, threw in some basic must-haves and put a bit of my own twist on them to keep them unique and interesting. So have a look at the video below…
What’s your favorite trend for spring?

Love All Trust a Few Do Wrong To None…

Well, the graphic tee and I are inseparable… You can say so much without even having to open your mouth, and I have to say this statement tee is my absolute fave. William Shakespeare… so much insight!
I got a girl’s night out last week with a dear friend who is moving {insert super sad face} and this has to be one of my favorite casual looks…

Also! I posted about a recipe on Instagram/Twitter last week and got a bunch of emails asking for it… It’s not really my recipe, I got it off Pinterest, but here it is for those of you who asked:

note: I used a pale ale I had on hand and I cooked via the oven method. It was delish! Even threw leftovers in an omelet the next morning…
Ingredients
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated with a microplane (or minced)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup porter or stout beer
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • ½ tsp Dijon mustard
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • ¼ cup chopped shallots (about 1 medium shallot)
  • 6 boneless skinless chicken thigh fillets, cut into cubes
  • oil for the grill
  • Chopped cilantro for garnish (optional)
Directions
  • In a small bowl whisk together the garlic, honey, porter, red pepper flakes, mustard, soy sauce and pepper. Add the chicken cubes, refrigerate for 1 hour and up to overnight.
  • Remove the chicken from marinade (reserve the marinade) thread the chicken through wooden skewers.
  • In a pot over medium high heat, add the olive oil and shallots. Sautee until shallots have softened, about 5 minutes. Add marinade and boil, stirring frequently, until reduced and thickened, about 8 minutes.
  • Grill directions:
  • Preheat grill to medium high.
  • Brush the grill lightly with oil.
  • Brush the chicken with the glaze, place on the grill. Brush with glaze and turn every 2-4 minutes until cooked through, about 10 minutes.
  • Sprinkle with chopped cilantro prior to serving.
  • Oven directions:
  • Preheat the oven to 400. Place chicken on a baking sheet covered with aluminum foil. Brush liberally with glaze. Roast at 400 for 30-40 minutes, brushing with glaze every 8-10 minutes until cooked through.
  • Sprinkle with chopped cilantro prior to serving.

The Boyfriend…

…and lace.

jeans: Hudson (sale!) // sweater: Target (similar, similar) // glasses: Marc Jacobs // bag  // shoes (similar)

One of my favorite street style trends are boyfriend jeans. I could live in mine.

It’s not quite fall here (temps are soaring in the hight 90s and even triple digits), but I’m so ready. Last week, I had shopping and errands so I grabbed out a fancy sweater with a lace back to at least let me think fall is on the horizon.

It’s one of the lightest I own. Loose, warm enough for cooler nights, but light enough for hot days, it pairs so well with boyfriend jeans and it was a steal from Tarjay!
