Dressing Up That LBD with Kitsy Lane

I did a series back in October about finding the perfect little black dress for one’s shape {here, here, and here}. Today, I’m pairing some pieces from Kitsy Lane to really give that LBD some va va boom!

Here’s a full skirt LBD I happen to love. Great for the diamond, apple, rectangle and wedge shapes, it can go from casual to dressed up with some accessories I’m in love with!

dress: Asos
necklace: Kitsy Lane
wrap bracelet: Kitsy Lane {love this also}
pumps: Michael Kors Audrey buckle pump {similar}
Next up is the empire waisted LBD, perfect for the pear shape as well as the diamond, wedge and rectangle…
dress: Eliza J
necklace: Kitsy Lane
earrings: Kitsy Lane
Of course the sheath dress is amazing on the hourglass figure, but also works for a wedge. And I’m in love with this dressy little number…
necklace: Kitsy Lane
cuff: Kitsy Lane
earrings: Kitsy Lane

Best LBD for Your Shape: Pear and Wedge Figures

As long as we’re talking LBDs, I thought we should all have cocktails in hand! Since I’m also dressing the ‘pear’ figure I thought ‘How about a pear martini?’ Scroll down for the recipe and enjoy while reading this or one of the past week’s guides to your shape {‘Hourglasses & Diamonds’ and ‘Rectangles & Apples’}.

Triangle/Pear: Go for an A-line skirt dress, a wrap, empire waist, or even a cute peplum dress with boatneck tops, square or cowl necklines. Ruffles on top are beautiful and pointy-toed shoes will elongate your legs. The dress I’ve chosen to style is a bit of a twist on the little black dress. The lighter top of black and white and lower half with the black lace really give it a lot of contrast. I love the boatneck top and bare shoulders for really flaunting off one of the pear’s best assets. The pop of color with a purple belt is perfect for emphasizing the waist.

Wedge/Inverted Triangle: Full skirts and empire waistlines are gorgeous for this figure. Creating the illusion of a waist is key and accentuating the legs while softening the shoulders is the goal. Try out a belted sheath or a wrap dress as well.

French Pear Martini
1 1/2 oz St. Germain liqueur
1 1/2 oz pear vodka
Champagne
super fine sugar for rimming

Rim a cocktail glass with the sugar.
Shake liquors in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Strain into the prepared cocktail glass and top with champagne.
Enjoy!

Best LBD for Your Shape: Rectangles and Apples

Continuing with the perfect LBD for your figure, today we’re dressing the rectangle and apple-shaped women.

Rectangle: Full skirts, empire waists, and A-lines are very flattering and create curves. Think dresses with scoop necks and sweetheart for curves. Ruffles, collars, and details will flatter your bust. Ruching and side cinching is perfect! Try out a wrap, spaghetti straps or a halter dress. I’m styling a one shoulder ruffle dress that drapes down the side to create dimension.

Apple: Full, short skirts show off your gorgeous gams. Baby doll dresses look stunning on this figure! Choose v-necks to give the illusion of a longer torso. A-line and wrap dresses are a must for your closet! This gorgeous full, crepe dress with leather trim really draws your eyes down.

Best LBD for Your Shape: Hourglass and Diamond Figures

Every woman needs that Little Black Dress just hanging around in her closet. Since women come in varying beautiful ‘shapes’ I thought I’d match up the perfect LBD that will have you rockin’ your gorgeous bod whatever the occasion. I’m doing this in segments, so we’ll tackle two at a time through the next week.

There are charts out there (like the one below) to help women decipher through the code of what works best for an ‘apple’ shaped and even ‘triangle’ figure, but it can be tricky trying to play up assets.

With a little confidence and a dress to ‘hug’ and ‘hold’ you in the right places for your body type, you can rock your figure. I’ve included a dress chart and paired the different styles with each body type for a flattering fit. AND… I’ve styled looks for each figure so you can shop right online!

Hourglass: As the most coveted figure, it seems anything looks good on a gal with an hourglass. So while an hourglass can probably rock any of the above styles, think anything thats draws in at the waist (accentuate with a belt!), fitted, an empire waist, and lightweight fabrics. Try out a wrap dress! A BodyCon dress or a sheath is perfect. I’ve styled a BodyCon dress below…

“size”:”600×200″,
“content”:”list-52549ad2458719304a71fb42″,
“layout”:”grid”
};

Diamond: The diamond figure is the exact opposite of the hourglass woman. The key to dressing a diamond shape is to add volume at the shoulders and hips while fitting the waist a bit to create beautiful curves. Shift dresses with fuller shoulders (add a skinny belt to define the waist), and empire waisted dresses with a boatneck top are beautiful on this figure. Think square or low circular necklines to elongate the volume of your shoulders and even fuller skirts to add volume to the hips. I chose a fit and flare dress with a sheer mesh panel to create texture and added a sequined blazer that broadens the shoulders and draws the waist in…
